I have owned a #3 for 10 years originally issued to me in the military. I have used it constantly through my career including a tour to Afghanistan and other countries and provinces. I have just bought a #3 for my son who just recently joined the military and I KNOW it will serve him as well as it has served me over the years as mine is still my all around go to knife

I made a trip up to Pictou, NS in July 2018 solely to make it to Grohmann knives. it was a 24 hour drive from Muncie, Indiana, but well worth it. Pictou is a wonderful place to visit and grohmann knives is a great little shop. I had been wanting a grohmann knife for a while but waited until i could buy one in person. I have been an outdoors-man and knife user for the past 25 years, and have a pile of knives that I have shifted through over the years as my tastes have changed. I picked out (in advance) a Grohmann #1 in Carbon steel with black micarta handles. I am now of the opinion that this is the perfect knife. i have carried it while hiking several times, and now use is as my every day carry knife. i took the leather loop off the sheath and it disappears in my pocket. For a full sized knife, it is very light and lively. The unconventional handle is perfect for my hand (size large) and the alignment with the blade makes if perfect for the kitchen and camp cooking. It is not a sharpened pry-bar, as many knives are now, but a purpose-built cutting tool. I can't think of a knife that would meet my needs better. Thanks Grohmann!

My first knife as a young man was a gift from my parents. It was a D.H. Russel number 1. I grew to be as Canadian as any young man could be. I studied Forestry at UNB, hunted, fished and was Queen Scout. I became a Nova Scotia Guides Hunting and Fishing Associate member for 25 plus years now. I also became one of Canada’s best Lumberjack’s and Ironjack. I was able to be the Nova Scotia Hunting and Fishing Guides Association Champion Guide in 2014. A very revered and traditional title. Only one brand of knife that ever gets on my belt. Yours. I was also lucky enough to have been taught by the Professer that helped provide the wood for your handles, Dr. Mark Schneider. Great man. I have not purchased a new knife in years. I have been collecting them. My Uncles and a couple of close friends had and used your knives. I was proud to accept them as gifts before they passed away. One knife, my favourite has the dates of my Uncles Births and Deaths on the blade. While they maybe knives to most, they are prized possessions to me. That knife was a gift to my Uncle from a World War 2 veteran, a sniper. Lessons I learned and wisdom I got can’t be measured. When I Captained our National Team in Lumberjack Sports to competition at the NS Guides meet, I always carried that one knife with me. Much like my crooked knife, important part of a Guides kit. That knife was and is a part of my life and a part of Nova Scotia’s Life. Guides of the Northwoods they use to call us. Just last weekend I dressed a deer for my Father. 77 years old, 51 year cancer survivor and heart surgeries and it goes on. First time he ever said I’m too old and too tired to do this. Would you do it for me? Of course I did. Guess what knife I used??? I would love to formally come up some day and see your place and meet all of you. See the place but even more take a break or over lunch just chew the fat as they say. Thanks for the memories and more to come.

Hi to be totally honest. I'd never even heard of your knives until recently. I found a rusted out one during a run to the local land fill. With low expections of a found rusty knife I grabbed it. I'm teaching myself metalwork/smithing. I thought it a good learning tool nothing more. I got grinding and in 20 minutes i had uncovered a perfectly functional knife. Ya it's uglier than factory. But it cut thin paper like air. If you wish a testamonial from the owner of the most abused and functioning knife you've produced this is it! I'm simply shock at its ability given its state when found. The best Christmas gift I could have gotten!
Please! All of you have a happy holidays!

"I just wanted to pass along my short story about my Russell Belt Knife that I made at the 1981 Canadian Scout Jamboree. The blade still has the faint CJ 81 Alberta stamp on it. This knife has been a part of my hunting belt for some 36 years now and holds an edge well with a couple regular swipes across a sharpener. I have processed many many animals with this knife and while I have other newer knives I always put this one back on my belt. Thanks for the good product and memories."

Stopped in to the store on my way to catch the ferry to PEI yesterday and inquired about sharpening my 15 year old #1. I didn't have much time and was told that the wait time was usually 1 hour and that things were busy but that they would see what they could do. I had my knife back and sharpened to perfection in about 10 minutes with a cost of less that $3. Thanks Grohmann - customer servicer does not get any better than this.

Hello Grohmann Knives. Just received a Russell belt knife and it is beautiful in it's simplicity and functional design! More than that, I got a very enlightening education about many aspects of blade craft by reading everything on your great website. I'm sure that I will own a few more of your creations as time goes by.

My Father bought me a Russell for my 20th Birthday in 1990, it was the #4 with my name engraved on it. Have it still, never let me down, handles nice, leather thong on the handle is long gone. Sheath is holding up quite nicely and have purchased the 101 since. Back for another one this time it's the 100. Thanks for the GREAT quality over the years never changing and staying in CANADA it's important to us.

Me and my friend Johnny where coming back from my hunting trip
Up by whistler from bear hunting trip. On the way back from our hunting trip thier was an accident infront of us a very bad one. The two cars collided with each other one roled over and the one was badly crumpled
We where the first on the scene and as I am hunter I all ways have my original Grohmann knife on me while hunting. I used it to cut threw the seat belts and as a pry bar it is was not designed for that kind of use but it cut three belt and helped me free the people trapped in the vehicle. The knife is the best tool I could ask for and it is nice to be underrated it is a wonderful tool that help me deal with a difficult situation. The fact that I still have this knife is a testimony to its functionality and operation as a knife.

Just wanted to let you know that I am still using my father's D.H.Russell knife that was issued to him by the CF sometime in the 60's. I am 50 years old this year and have been carrying that knife hunting every year since I was 14, the only thing that has ever happened to it is the rawhide hand loop is of course gone hard and has broken a couple of times, I am loathe to replace it as it is the original and I stupidly managed to chip the blade tip while hunting one day, a friend of mine was able to repair and sharpen it so well you would never know it was damaged, he was that impressed with the knife he now owns 2.
anyway thank-you for a fine product glad to see they are still available.

This year for our 53rd anniversary my wife asked what gift I would like and I told her a Grohmann pocket knife. Well, she delivered perfectly by giving me a Mini Lockback and I could not be more pleased. It is by far the best made knife I have ever owned. The fit and finish is superb (no gaps anywhere, no blade wobble, the blade centers perfectly, ect.) and the materials you use are the best. And, on top of all that, it's just plain good looking. Thank you for making great knives at reasonable prices. That's a combination hard to find these days.

I was returning home from a small game hunt with my two young sons, when a large bull moose popped out in a cut over. We were in our hunting area, and I had my license and moose rifle in the truck with us me, so after some pressure from the little guys, we decided to take him. He went down after two shots, and it was cold enough that I thought I could leave him until I could return in the morning with proper cleaning gear and some help. We walked the 400 yards up into the cutover to make certain he was finished, and I realised that my second shot had hit low enough in the vitals that the stomach might be punctured, and I had to clean this animal up immediately. The only blade I had with me was my Grohmann number 4 survival which was purchased a few weeks before and hadn't even been touched yet. The knife made very short work of the first part of the process, but we needed to cut through the breastbone of the animal to remove the entrails, which was far larger than I realised. It was 14 points but ended up weighing close to 900 lbs, by far my biggest animal to date. My ten year old picked up a decent piece of granite and I used it as a hammer to pound the blade through two feet of moose bone. I cringed every time I struck, knowing I was damaging my beautiful new knife, but the meat couldn't survive until morning and I was left with no alternative. After it was finished, due to the position of the animal, I had to remove the bottom half to get them away from any contamination from the punctured stomach, so we used the rock and knife to then cut through the backbone. When we finally got home that night, I pulled out the knife to examine the damage. After cleaning off the blood and residual hair, I was stunned to see that the knife looked as though it had just come out of the box. No marks, no chips or deformations in the blade, and still sharp enough that I used it the next day to skin the animal without having to sharpen it. I have owned many hunting knives in my life, but none has stood up to this kind of punishment, and the fact that it is Canadian made only makes me happier. I will be a customer for life.

Hello Grohmann Knives
I want to thank-you for two things, my new knife and helping me find my Uncle Clem. I bought my first Grohmann knife in 1998 it was a Fillet Knife #RF800S with a rosewood handle. I had my name engraved on it.. I use it every time I go fishing and today it looks great . I went to New Glasgow for a visit in the beginning of Sept 2016. I came to Pictou to visit my Uncle Clements “Clem” Guthro a second world war vet. I had not seen him for many years. I saw the Grohmann knives store where I bought my fillet knife many years before and stopped in. The lovely lady at the counter helped us to find where he was and I had a wonderful visit (Thank-you so much for your help) we didn't know where he was, you told us where the homes were and looked up their phone numbers. We found Uncle Clem and he told me a little about our family and being in Germany during the war. I learned about his travels all over the world. No matter where he went he always loved coming home and living in Nova Scotia. He said "they take very good care of me here" in the vets ward where he is. While I was in the store I also bought a #3 regular Boat knife carbon steel with a micarta handle which is my second knife from Grohmann I love it. I look forward to using it. Thank-you

i have a no3 that was my grand fathers at least 40 years ago,it is an amazing knife, with the original sheath even.so when i saw you guys were up and running still. i bought a couple of your seconds another no3 military issue and the outdoor knife that was specally built for some outfit.this was a test to see if the quality was as good.well guess what i still havent figured out why they are classed as seconds.the materials and the workmanship are incredible and i cant find anything wrong with these knives at all.and one of the coolest things was i got my nickname engraved on them both .no way they will go missing now with timebomb engraved on the blade.so now that you guys have passed my test i'm only buying number ones from now on,you guys make me proud to be nova scotian again

I have been to your store several times. On 1 occasion I did the factory tour, which was a great learning experience.
I always pick up a few knives on my visits as the quality of your products is the best I have used.
I came across a store in Michigan ( Mackinaw City ) where they carry your knives, I picked up a few there as I was familiar with the quality.
I am looking forward to my return to your store !

Dear Grohmann Knives,
I have recently returned home from a short trip to Nova Scotia where I purchased one of your original design knives. Having used various knives over the years and being a keen hiker/camper, I thought that it would be prudent to let you know that your knife is one of the very best I have ever used. It is extremely comfortable when using for long periods of time, keeps a great edge and for want of a better description, is a 'cracking' knife to use (may I add that I am Scottish and that cracking means very good in the Scots language!) I hope to return to Canada again in the near future where I will most definitely purchase another knife from your range. Grohmann knives are definitely unusual looking compared to most others, but they leave most others far behind. With your permission I'd like to make mention of your knives in the book that I am currently writing which is a follow up to a book I had published in 2012. Please keep up the good work and may I wish you all the best.Regards, good luck & keep on the sunnyside,Johnny Gauld/Caledonian Cowboy

My husband and I use to go to Pictou every year. Love the scenery but our yearly stop was the Grohmann store! I can not begin to tell you how much we love Grohmann knives! We use to butcher our own deer and never had to resharpen any of the Grohmann knives.
I just bought a few 2nds for our Florida home and love the 2nds as well.
I kept trying to get onto your custom knife site but the site did not seem to work. My husband is a folding knife collector and I would love to surprise him mwith one of your Collector's knives that are shown in your Outdoor Catalogue.

In the last five years I have bought seven Grohmanns,
Kitchen, Fillet, and Hunting....
Quality is always high and they handle any job you put to them.
I can skin out an elk without sharpening my Grohmann....not many people can say that...
My $.02....if you don't buy a Grohmann...you are flat out wasting money.....

I have been looking for kitchen knives and was almost ready to purchase some German knives at a very good price. I decided to check out the locally make knives - those made in Nova Scotia - first. It was an easy sell. Within 30 min. I had purchased 4 forged Grohmann knives. I couldn't be happier. They feel good in my hand, make cutting easy and look beautiful. My husband purchased a hunting knife many years ago and he continues to enjoy using it. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for the beautiful knives. I am all equipped for some hunting and fishing now!! As a long time waiter I have seen a lot of kitchen knives and this forged 6" filet will stand with the best and well above most. Truly a gem. The deep woods hunter is gorgeous and fits my hand very well. The blade angle sets up perfect for skinning and she is sturdy. The brass works very well with the wood tone and adds a touch of class. The graceful line of the blade and the handle is extremely well thought out and executed. This high quality item shows in the details and the notching in the back of the blade to support the thumb is crisp and well spaced.
Thanks for the world class and truly Canadian blades. Respectfully, GGS

Hi, I visited your factory on a summer holiday to Nova Scotia a number of years ago. I'm an engineer and just by looking at examples of your knives, I could see the quality, the care, the proper tempering. I came home to Scottsdale, AZ and ordered two kitchen knives from one of your dealers. When I received them, I had to clear out the junk I had been using. I ended up buying over $1000 worth of the finest knives on earth which serve me well every day. Your knives maintain an edge! They are perfectly balanced! In short, they are the perfect kitchen knives. I have others including the folding pocket knife which I never let anyone else use. You do excellent work and it was high time that I reached out to express my appreciation. Just for the record, they are not as good as German or Swiss, they are far, far better. I have had friends ask about my knives and just taking one in hand has often provoked the comment, Man, I'm using junk at my house.. then I tell them where to buy.

Hello, my mother, Ann Ruffo (maiden name) has owned a Grohmann knife for years. It is marked "Russell Belt Knife Canada Rd - 1958". She was a hunting & fishing guide, in her younger years, in Metagama, ON. Canada. It is located on the Spanish River along the Canadian Pacific Railway line. She was a guide to many Canadian & American tourists who stayed in the many cabins scattered along the river. She had her photo posted in the Toronto Star & The New York Times, along with her story. She is wearing the knife on her belt. She has now passed away but I still have her knife & will always treasure it. She loved that knife. In 2014 I submitted a story to Reader's Digest, along with photos, about her adventurous life as a guide. It was published in the "Our Canada" Aug./Sept.2014 edition. The sheath that came with her knife is a dark brown color. When viewing your web site, I only see sheaths that are light colored. Do you still make the dark ones ? Thank you & I hope you enjoyed my comments. Regards Joan McGoldrick

I purchased the heavy duty forged 8 inch chef knife several months ago. It is a phenomenal knife, weight, balance, and edge ...supreme! It has the best knife I have ever used...it' all in the weight, edge thickness and steel quality. GREAT KNIFE. I might add, that one of the best features of the heavy duty chef knife is the thicker wedge edge of the blade that reduces food sticking when slicing. Rand Muir

Had a Russell belt knife I got back in the early 80s at a yard sale. The home owners wife was using it to dig in the garden. I had read a article in Field & Stream I think a few months before and it had a Russell in it so I knew what it was. I offered the guy a dollar for it and just like that it was mine. I field dressed my first deer with it. It skinned countless foxes, coyotes, bobcats, and everything else up to and including elk. It got stolen 2 years ago and I didn't think they were made anymore.
Glad to see they are and I will be buying one as soon as I can. It will never replace the memories of my first one, but hopefully they are still made like my first, indestructible and you couldn't dull the edge except with a rock. Keep up the tradition. Norm

I am from western New York and at the age of 23 I have had the chance to take over 37 white tail deer and my large skinner has never let me down and I always buy one or more of your knives when I come back to Pictou to see family . So thank you for making a knife that has never let me down from the hard woods of New York to the Canadian Arctic thank you

While in the Air Force I managed to acquire a few of the Russell belt knives, as issued to our air crews. I retired in 1990 and still have the originals. I've skinned many deer and have passed on the extra knives to my wife, daughter, and son. They love them and still use them when outdoors. Quality Knife - Quality Company. Thanks, RB

A number of years ago I arrived at army sniper school and to my dismay found that I had forgotten my field knife. I always carry a kit bag with me and inside was my Grohmann number 1. I received much ribbing from the other students about my (butter knife) until I handed it to them. Just a few minutes in the hand converted everyone who handled it. Still have that knife, skinned a deer a couple of nights ago.

I own a #1 and two #3's, one of which is a Canadian Rangers Special edition. I have carried a #3 since I joined the army in 1981. I owned most every tactical knife out there but always come back to the Russell blade. Sheer simplicity of it's design make it a survival tool and a combat weapon. And because I am from Pictou as well, LOL.

All the knives made by Grohmann are beautifully handcrafted and worth every dollar. If you are going to be in or near Pictou, Nova Scotia you really should stop in for a visit. Take the free tour if possible, I wasn't able to myself, but wish I did. True Canadian pride built into every knife. Thank you for making an astounding product!

I own your 300s Russell Lockblade and of all the many knives I own, it is, without question,
the best. The mere act of opening and closing this knife is a joy as it clicks precisely from position to position. How you are able to make a knife of this quality at such a modest price, amazes me. I wish you continued success. You certainly deserve it. Yours truly, Jerry Roebuck

Greetings from Dallas, Texas.
I have purchased four of your knives and use two of them throughout the year. My favorites are the No.1 in carbon steel and the No.4. Both with stag handles. I find the design of these knives matched by a manufacturing process that produces a top shelf product. I bought a No.1 in stainless steel as a gift. One of your Canadian Navy 100 year anniversary knives rounds out my collection. Thank you for your quality products.

Had my Russell Original since 1967 (I think it was) has been used for everything from simple camping and canoe trips to gutting of small and large game. Always holds it edge and is a treasured piece of my outdoor gear. On site to find a new sheath the belt loop finally gave way and can't find a machine small enough to stitch it back on. Also own several of the pocket knives. Bravo well done.

Good Day, as my Father and Uncle had your knives as part of their fishing and hunting gear over the years,...as a kid, I took part on many of their adventures,...it just brings back many wonderful memories of the time I spent with them,...I would fish with them but most times had fun hacking down long limbs from trees and making forts, I would get to skin and help in quartering some of the game,...they would let me dress some of the fish/game,...the knives were durable, efficient and in the right hands were a natural extension of the hand. Dad always reminded me of how sharp the blades were and made sure they were! He had pride in keeping the knives clean and maintained them,...the ritual he followed, the stories and memories,...and as of the last year I now have inherited them and will continue to keep them clean and sharp! Ah memories,...the outdoors, campfires , hunting, especially family and the Grohmann knife.

My first introduction to your fine knives was when I was issued my first one my first day on board the HMCS Terranova. I was always impressed with how well it kept its edge, no matter how I abused it. Later the next year I participated in the Lobster Carnival in Pictou with the rest of my ships company, where I met the most wonderful people from your community. In all my time in the navy and ever since there is only one knife I still carry, it is that No.3 Grohmann DH
Russell blade with Canada stamped on it, that I have carried, and it is the one I may give to my son or grandson, if they can ever get it away from me.....Thanks for the best knife I have ever carried. Cory O'Donnell

Just received my #4 model with guthook on rosewood from your 'seconds' inventory: I couldn't be more impressed! I'm confused as to why it is a second. I have inspected it very closely and it seems perfect. Anyway, not only is it the perfect knife for my kit, but its also beautiful and worth showing off (as completely opposed to the old beater I replaced with it): I will certainly be a repeat customer. Comments=My Russell BELT Knife was given to me (new) in about 1965 by a close friend. It is marked Rd-1958 on one side, with the Russell BELT KNIFE Canada on the opposite side of the blade. Beautifully molded sheath and the finest steel I have ever come across. I have
always carried it with me on camping and fishing trips. Though I have about 20 pounds of pocket and belt knives in my collection, this is unquestionably the best knife I own. No matter the value, this is the one I use whenever I'm in the woods.I'm tempted to buy a new model and put my old friend safely away, but somehow it just wouldn't be the same.
Thanks for making a great product.

I started collecting Grohmann outdoor knives a few years ago. Some I use in the kitchen, some in the field, and some remain NIB. I have multiple versions of most outdoor models, but cannot find information helping me identify manufacturing date, as certain things have changed over the years (tang stampings, lanyard hole, rivet material, handle thickness). I hope someday Grohmann will search their archives and make available a book for collectors

Dear Manufacturers: I am a avid hunter and have used your Grohmann #100 skinning knife for over 25 years. I have skinned out many a Moose, Deer, and Bear with this knife and have never been so impressed with a product. Your knives are durable, dependable, fine looking, and in all accounts a very superior product on the market. Don't get me wrong l have tried other products out there, but have always come back to your product the( tried and true). Also if l may add, l am a retired military veteran of 30 years in the Canadian Forces. Anyone who has spent any time in the Airborne knows your Russell knives as it was and l believe still is the unofficial knife of that unit and of the Armed Forces. Peoples lives depended on your product functioning properly from paratroopers, mountain climbers, to personnel Rappelling off towers, mountain cliffs or
out of helicopters. The Russel knife to me has proven itself over and over again as a must have knife!! This product is strong and very dependable. It's hardened steel blade, if sharpened properly holds a great edge. Thank you for such a wonderful knife!! These are my personal opinions and not those of the Canadian Forces.

I have owned a # 4 survival knife since 1967. It has cleaned countless deer elk and moose cut down small trees and went through a snow blower that chewed up the sheath. No damage was done to the handle
or blade just a few small nicks. Also I inherited my fathers #1 original that he bought right from you in
the early sixty's and it is also used year round. They both are easy to sharpen and go every where I go when I am out of doors fishing hunting or camping. The greatest out door knifes I'll ever own!

I had heard about your company and as an avid outdoors person I wanted to see your products. Needless to say I was impressed with the way the employees welcomed us on short notice and gave us a tour of the facilities which concluded with a number of people making purchases including myself. I bought a #100 D H Russell skinning knife and several kitchen knives and I have been extremely pleased with the quality and longevity of the products. Since I am unable to enjoy the outdoors anymore I have passed on the my skinning knife to my older son who is thrilled to have it and when my younger son became interested in hunting I purchased the same knife for him. I have admired your product for years. Recently while vacationing in Nova Scotia I had the privilege of touring the Bluenose II while it was docked in Halifax harbour. While talking to the crew members I noticed they were all wearing the Russell yachtsmen boating knife equipped with the marlin spike and appropriate sheath. The young
woman crewman I was chatting with was using hers while working on splicing and whipping a rope. I then went on to purchase my own knife at a yachting shop in Lunenburg. I am looking forward to using my belt knife for many years. Thank you for offering such a fine product! Sincerely, Stanley Hanna

I own 2 Grohmann knives which are the #1, and a #4. I bought the # 4 first, and field tested it. I was very impressed at how well it performed skinning, and how well it retained its edge. On my next trip to Canada I picked up a #1, and have been carrying it for a year or so now. The #1 is the best knife bar none that i have ever had. The size, blade, and handle is what makes this knife. The #4 is the runner up but i prefer the #1 over the #4 because of its size. I will be recommending this knife to all of my friends down here in Texas. I wish Everyone at Grohmann the best, Thanks for making a great product. This kind of quality is very hard to find these days. Best Regards

I discovered my first Russell Belt Knife at an estate sale and bought it for five dollars about ten years ago. I think it was a #2. Some time after that my home was broken into and it was stolen. I sure was relieved to find the company was still in business and promptly replaced it with a #1. I've spent my entire life (I'm 51) in the back country and the knife is one of the best pieces of gear I've ever had. I only wish I'd found your knives sooner and I hope you never go out of business. Some body needs to point out to the Canadian government what a mistake they're making by not buying your knives any more. Maybe us Americans should consider buying your knives for our military boys too!

I purchased my first Grohmanns last year before hunting season - bought a standard skinner, and a short blade skinner. Honestly incredible knives. I was so impressed I am buying the kits to assemble them myself for my wedding party. I can't think of a better gift that will stand the test of time, and remain true for a lifetime.
I am a hunter and a big game guide, and my knives earn their keep. Grohmann will have a place on my belt or in my pack for the rest of my travels. You should buy one and see for yourself.

It was given to me by a friend when I left Ontario In 1963 , from the west coast She skinned out Moose , Deer, Bear , Goat , Elk , filleted fish. And I even used it as a straight razor when out in the bush , after a good honing! And still using it today 2009 ! Where could you get a better knife today , Keep up the good work , And they will sell themself!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello, I felt obliged to acknowledge my experience with your knives. I purchased a couple of your factory seconds [knives sold with a flaw] over a year ago, as I had moved in with a couple roommates and was worried about them handling my more expensive [brands]. At first, I was a little disappointed as the handle of the chefs knife was a little loose and I thought that there just wasn't enough steel on the blade of the filleting knife. This was until a few months past and I started to realize something. Of all the knives I own, this is the toughest steel I have ever worked with. The knives take an edge quite well and they hold it better than I've ever seen. Alas, the filleting knife doesn't need more material, it will take 100 years of sharpening to waste that knife away.
I am very impressed with these knives, and I will definitely be looking through your selection the next time I am in need of more hardware.
Thanks a million!

Dear Grohmann knives, I bought my first Grohmann #4 last year while I was in Edmonton. I have owned many other brands and styles of knives over the years, but I have to say that this is one of the best I have ever had. The knife holds a good edge, and is built like a tank. I am very happy with my purchase. Keep up the good work! Best regards

Good day, I am an outdoor educator at the university level, and I encourage all my outdoor leadership students to purchase and carry a Grohmann knife in their leader's packs (which most do). The quality and durability of your knives is great and will last a person a lifetime if cared for. I have been carrying the Grohmann #1 with my outdoor gear since 1973 and it has serviced me very well. I now have several #1's, #3's, a #4 as well as several of your kitchen knives. I think it's a crime that our armed forces don't have this tool in their kits anymore, particularity in light of our asking them to go into combat. Shame on our government. Keep up the good work! Dear; Sir/Madam I was shocked today to learn that you are no longer the supplier of belt and boot knives to the Canadian Armed forces. As an ex service member who has used your products many times I can say that they are the best rope and line tool I have ever used. Now to learn that they have been replaced by cheap Asian knock-offs angers me . I pray that the good people of Pictou send Mr. Harper a message by sending the current minister of defense back to the potato farm. J. Dennis

I am appalled that our Government would replace the Grohmann knives issued to soldiers with a cheap Chinese piece of crap. Is nothing sacred anymore? I had one of your knives issued to me in the 70s while serving as a member of the Canadian Airborne Regiment. It was a nice piece of kit and went with me everywhere. You get what you pay for and your knives are worth every red cent and then some.

I bought one of your #3 army knives with the flap sheath last September at the store.
Went hunting deer in Ontario in November with a group of older hunters (first time there for me) I killed 3 deer and hit a fourth which another member killed. The knife gutted and skinned all four deer. Everyone tried it and loved it so much so that one fellow bought himself one for christmas. After several years of no luck I feel the knife brought me luck thank you

Hi from France. This morning I received your folding knife 300S which I purchased on ebay. I am like a young boy discovering a Xmas gift. This knife is amazingly well made and finished. Such a quality in the French town known for making knives, Thiers, would certainly cost at least 3 or 4 times more and maybe not so perfect. Congratulations. I am sure it is not the last Grohmann I purchase. Best regards. Pierre

well worth buying a set - now I'm saving for a set of steak knives and I'm sure the quality shall be exceptional

I wish to thank you for the friend on my hip since 1958,when you won an award and I saw an ad and sent for one. Since then I have acquired a folder, a bird and fish, a Canadian Forces knife. We have hunted and fished in B.C. every year and the original one is still going strong. I am sorry that I don't use the others often but my friend gets the nod mostly. It still wows me with it's simple lines that work! Thanks for the most useful tool that I own! Bill.

I was first issued my jump knife, in 1986.I used this knife in my Army duties here in Canada, when I transferred to the Air force, this knife "followed" me home. It was routinely used as my skinning knife for deer, many years in Alberta and Saskatchewan. My Father's recent passing left me with quite a few memorabilia, but the Grohmann belt knife he was issued in the Royal Canadian Navy is truly valued. These Grohmann knives were often under-rated especially by my younger peers. PS: The new issue "shroud" knife for downed aircrew and parachutists is a joke because it only serves one special use only. Unlike our useful and multi-purpose Grohmann belt knife.

I would like to tell you about my Belt knife - Found by a canadian conservation officer on a poached moose in 1999, this D.H. Russell Belt Knife was given to me by the officer in 2000. I took it to Europe where it served me and my girlfriend equally well in hunting. In 2003 the knife vanished on a trip to Letland and was dearly missed until today - when I thought about caping knives. The Russell came to mind, pinched my stomach about the loss and drove me, on a hunch, to again go through the camper we drove in 2003,which we had naturally searched earlier. -
The knife sat for four years wedged behind a closet and will now again accompany me on hunting chores here in Europe as well as big - game guiding in Alaska. Makes me very happy. Thank you, Carl

Hello, I bought the trout and Bird Model somewhere close to 20 years ago.I dressed many Deer, Trout and Rabbit with that Knife. This fall after gutting my Youngest Sons First Deer I lost it after Dark on the Drag out of the woods. I was heart Broken, That Knife was my Best Friend on Many, Many days Afield. It had so much sentimental value. I looked for days hoping it would turn up but it wasn't to be. I found your knife to be one of the easiest knifes to Sharpen and it stayed that way. I used it for Dressing, Skinning and Butchering all of the Deer that I took over that last 20 years. I only
wished at the time I bought it that I would have bought 2 because the store I bought it at no longer deals them. I live in Southwestern Nova Scotia. Can you direct me to a Dealer nearest me? I'm thinking on a Little Bigger one
this time. Thanks Craig

I've used your "jump knife" for many years. It was issued to me almost 20 years ago. From when I joined the EME Branch of the Canadian Army. EME is the fancy name for the guys who fix anything with a engine. I used it for hunting, fishing & camping. But I've had one of my gear bags stolen which had my knife in it. I would like to know who is selling your knives in the Edmonton AB. area. Keep up making a dam good product. And thank-you.

A few years ago I attended sniper school. When I arrived I realized I had not packed my field knife. I did however have a Russell #1 in my kit bag. I received a lot of flak for my so called kitchen knife. My response to this kidding was to hand then the knife. The kidding stopped and was replaced with questions about how to purchase one. The Russell #1 worked without flaw clearing firing lanes, opening ammo boxes and any other chores that it was called to do. The only draw back was the shiny blade.
This same knife also went on a 14 month tour of Iraq in 2005 with me.

I always thought your knives were kind of funny looking. One day about five years ago I drove down the highway from our deer camp to a sporting goods store to kill some time on a rainy day. It was there that I actually handled a #1 for the first time and there that I fell in love with the way it felt and handled. Of course I bought it and haven't looked back since. Very unique and very versatile knife and I love the fact that they're made in Canada.
BTW, they don't seem so funny looking to me anymore!

I bought a Grohmann bread knife for my sister for Christmas. Well, it's quite a hit. She called me when she opened it and said, "Cool knife! I haven't even used it yet and I've cut myself!" (she was checking to see how sharp it was) Then I got a phone call when she used it and she was even more excited about what a wonderful knife it was. She had cut herself again but had managed not to bleed on the bread. Then her 21 year old son cut himself and the new rule was that only she was allowed to use the knife. I got an e-mail from my brother-in-law a couple of days later and at the end of it he said he was off to bandage his wife yet again and that I was not ever to send another knife to their house. Now the new rule in their house is that she never buys sliced bread, she wants to slice it all herself because it's so much fun. I talked to her on the weekend and all of her cuts had healed and there were no new ones so maybe she's caught on how to use the darn thing. 8-) Take care!

The first time I saw a Grohmann blade I wondered why anyone would ever make such odd shaped knives. The moment I picked one up I had my answer. It's encouraging to see a knife designed for hunters by someone who really knows what works.
I now own two of these knives and consider them second to none. I can report that they are highly effective on elk and deer both. I have attempted to convince my wife that in the name of scientific experimentation it is crucial that I test them on moose and caribou. Hopefully that will happen soon.
I look forward to purchasing more Grohmann knives in the future and consider them to be not only a hunting tool, but a hunting heirloom as well. Thanks for making an outstanding knife!

I was first introduced to Grohmann knives as a young man. A mentor of mine had a #4 carbon steel survival knife which caught my eye. It had been well used in the Canadian north for many years. Although the blade had been discolored with age and hard use, the knife maintained it's razor sharp edge and sculptured lines. I was fortunate enough to receive my very own #4 survival knife (in stainless) as a gift on my 18th birthday. Now, 17 years later it is still a favourite possession and a reliable tool. Over the years I have owned a number of Grohmann knives and am more than satisfied with the fit, finish and durability of your product. Most recently, I have purchased a lockblade hunter with turquoise handle. I am having the handle engraved with my Son's initials - something to pass down to future generations.

It is truly nice to see a reputable product and company endure. My next knife purchase will ONLY be a D.H. Russell/ Grohmann. When you find a quality product that you like you stick with it!
I also plan to buy a few for some of my friends in the states!
